There is no question that the issue of violence is a main topic in the major media and violence is the blame for a lot of things these days. Whether its video games corrupting kids or Quentin Tarantino making movie with overly disturbing images. Because violence is such a controversial issue, this brings up the question of; what exactly constitutes something to be violent? or what exactly is violent?
A way to violence in a simple term could be; an overly physical or graphic event that causes harm to a certain thing or person. But to me violence is; one taking it upon them-self to stop another's expression of idea of activity, and can be done in a physical or mental manner. However violence seems to be a perception, for what i may think is violent may not be violent to another person. for this reason the definition of violence is more abstract and changes from person. And the reasons for something being violent is more of an opinion compared to a concrete dictionary definition .

"Physical force exerted for the purpose of violating, damaging, or abusing." "An act of aggression -as one against a person who resists." To me violence is an act of aggression towards someone or something unwilling. It might be hard defining a different version or you're version compared the definition in the dictionary.
I think violence is any negative action aimed at someone personally. Screaming and hitting of course are violent but so is a simple comment that can be very offending. I think this is because an offending comment can stir up a negative emotion in the one who is being attacked and this alone can cause them to become violent. So I believe that more then half of violence is cause by words alone.
P.s. I think people who think video games are causing kids to become violent are wrong. It's just kids havingn fun.
Violence is cultural too. In other countries and cultures within the U.S., groups of people have varying perceptions or acceptance of degrees of violence.
I think you're start off is very good however I don't understand this part"But to me violence is; one taking it upon them-self to stop another's expression of idea of activity, and can be done in a physical or mental manner." If you could make this statement more clear I think that will be helpful to the reader.
I agree with Ashley, you need to go into the different cultural beliefs of violence. Or you need to state that you are only looking at the definition of violence that is perceived in the United States
This will be a good word to define because violence has many different views. Some people think violence is simply war, blood, and gore and some think violence is the simplest act of hate towards anything.
good topic. Going into more detail about how the violence differs between people and what corrupts them to become violent would be a good way to explain it.
