Patriotism Obama Style

Obama's definition of patriotism is to support the ideals as well as the love for a country. He describes it as "not just a love of America in the abstract, but a very particular love for, and faith in, the American people". Comparing this definition and the pictures in the book is that the picture of Uncle Sam saying "Patriotism means silence" is saying that patriotism is defined by silence and peace around them, which is understandable and is similar to what Obama was saying. It creates this illusion of how we need to respect those around us and that it patriotism in that picture. The picture that says "Gaypatriot" shows that everyone can be a patriot. This is simliar to Obama's definition by saying that there is faith out there in the american people and everyone has this sort of faith and love for America. The last picture is an old lady with a million different patriotic flags on her clothing. This is similar to Obama's because he describes it as a love for a country, which she clearly has.

My own definition of patriotism is similar to President Obama's. I see patriotism as a deep love for the country that you belong to and the country that you serve. You have the deep love and you show it through many different ways and ideals that you create along the way. It is also a form of respect. Patriotism shows respect to those who have fought for the country and have died. It shows respect towards the President, politicians, government and the hard working Americans who make this country run. Patriotism creates an understanding of your love for the country no matter how you show it.
