What is Beauty?

Beauty is the description that is tagged on to anything and everything that particularly excites or catches the attention of anyone person. This word is thrown around in so many situations; it’s hard to really decipher a true definition. For the most part, everyone has run upon this word at one point. It may be used to describe the physical characteristics of a female, a piece of jewelry, or an exotic sports car. The most common use is to describe the physical characteristics of women and set the standards that we are made to live by. This simple little word can cause chaos to breakout. One day purple hair and dark eyeliner is the standard of beauty and the next naturally colored hair and minimal makeup is all the rage. The fashion industry has complete control on mainstream beauty, whatever the cutthroat industry decides is the newest popular look, even if it only looks good on six foot tall hundred pound models, it is instantly seen in your own community.

My definition tends to differ a little from the norm and thought to be connotation of this word. I believe that beauty comes from within mainly; I don’t believe that a person can ever be beautiful on the outside if the inside doesn’t reflect it. Its like Audrey Hepburn said, “I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.” I believe that the words of Ms. Hepburn sum it up the best, and I couldn’t say it any better myself.

Is there a difference between beautiful and fashionable? Maybe use popular phrases about beauty "beauty is in eye of the beholder". . . it's also been suggested that beauty can be measured by ratios in the face. eyes to nose to ears, etc.

I like your topic and from what I understand you think beauty is more from the inside and not the outside. That it is more important and better when someone is beautiful on the inside rather the outside. If so I like it. Good luck!

I like your topic, but it is a word that varies from person to person and it depends on what is being classified as "beautiful." You should provide definitions on how beauty is described in different contexts, like in art and nature for example. I believe that beauty isn't just a characteristic of humans, but of everything in our world in general.

I like your topic and how you bring media into the definition of beauty. I think your stance on how beauty is on the inside will make a good paper. I like that you are using quotes from Audrey Hepburn too! Good luck :)
