The Meaning of Patriotism

Obama's definition of patriotism shows that being patriotic to one's country is how people come together in agree in the ideals, to say, of the nation and support it greatly. As he says, America has many different types of people, but we can all co-exist with each other because of a certain loyalty to an single ideal that makes us believe America is the place for us. On the other hand, the "Patriotism means silence" poster shows that doing what the government wants is how you can be patriotic. This greatly contrast Obama's definition; in which, it's the citizens that create the patriotism. As for the other images, using iconic symbols such as the eagle or the flag, this will ground the idea that these people have different beliefs but they consider themselves an American.

My own view on patriotism is it's not really how loyal you are to your nation, perferably the government, but how willing you are to take actions for your nation. It doesn't matter what you do; whether it is listening to an authority or waving national symbols. If you believe what you are doing can help and maintain your nation, then you are being as patriotic as you can be.
