Patriotism

The meaning of patriotism like anyother word varies from person to person, and often depends on the situation. The defintion of patriotism that you get when looking at the picture on 254 is that a good american citizen who loves their country would be willing to serve in the army, because the picture is calling americans to help. The definiton of patriotism that you would get from looking at the pictures on page 255 is, that one loves their country and is dedicated to showing that love by wearing the colors and supporting a flag in their attire. Both of these defintions kind of go along with what Obama is saying in his article/ speech. He is saying that patriotism is a set of ideals and actions that show love for ones country. This is similar to the first picture in that they both say action is a key part to loving ones country, they say that it is one thing to just believe but another to set up and do something for what you believe. Obama's speech is similar to the second picture in that it is the ideals portion, it is saying that one most beleive in their country and be proud of what it is doing. My definition of patriotism would be similar to both the pictures and what Obama is saying. I think that you have to be devoted to your country, and that action is good, but I do not think that if you do not include action you are not being patriotic. For some people the action is just supporting and no doing. Some images that come to mind when I think of patriotism are american flags, and eagles and things that ulimatley represent america. These come to mind because they are the things that people asscoiate with the country that you love.
