The Patriot

Obama's definitions of patriotism have alot of different elements in them... he says what he thinks patriotism is, what it isn't and he gives at least one specific example of another person's definition when he mentions Mark Twain. The pictures say alot more to me than Obama's definition. Yes, Obama has some good definitions but I feel like these pictures more acurately depict different feelings about what the definition of patriotism is because the pictures are so different. The "patriotism means silence" picture is intense because it conveys a strong message with not so many words. It also has a demanding picture of a guy who looks like a patriot and it says its a message from homeland security which means it should be a credible source. To me, this picture is saying if your silent about something serious that you know about, if your patriotic you wont tell which I dont think is all that patriotic. The picture advocating gay republicans says alot because it is saying its ok to be politically invovled and still be gay which I think is interesting because homosexuals are usually put down in the political world. The happy woman is a "picture perfect" symbol of patriotism. She exemplifies the cherry pie type of patriotism. Wearing the country's flag and colors, showing where she is from which I think is definitely a form of partiotism...being proud of where you are from.
My definition of patriotism is being loyal to yourself, your fellow people and your country always and loyal to the government when it deserves it. This might seem unfair but I think the government needs to give citizens probable cause to be loyal to them.
