Faith

For our next paper I’m choosing the word faith. Faith is important to me because I believe God is our Lord and faith is way of expressing your thoughts and feelings about a your religion. I also believe that faith has multiple connotations. One can have faith in their God, in their government, themselves, their friends or family, their job, or in their life in general. To me faith means a lot of things, as far as religion is concerned I have faith in God, that He is taking care of us and he sent Jesus to die for our sins. As far as everything else I have faith that I can accomplish my goals to have a good life. I have faith in humanity in general to keep making the world a better place. To me, faith is powerful. For me I look to my faith when I don’t feel like I can change or do things by myself. To other people faith can be praying for someone if they are ill or it can mean believing in someone else or nothing at all.

Faith as a thing is not something that is always tangible. Some people look at faith as wearing a cross or Jewish star necklace or whatever religion they choose to practice. Otherwise I believe faith is in your mind and soul. It’s believing in yourself, a higher power or both. Other people might say faith is praying or going to church. It’s controversial because nobody can prove faith is what fixes their problems or what makes them stronger. Many people aren’t religious and they don’t believe there is anything resembling faith. Others aren’t religious but believe in faith as far as faith in themselves or their children. In my paper I can use songs that talk about faith and interview people on faith. I want to see what it means to other people, religious or not. I am curious to see if some people even believe in faith at all. It will be an interesting paper.

faith is belief. It's believing in something that (as you said) isn't tangible. Can a person have faith without a cross, star of david, jesus fish, etc? without going to church, without praying? without a chosen religion? is Karma a type of faith? faith that the universe will reward you for good doings and wrong you as you have wronged others?

It's interesting how you say that faith can affect anyone, religious or not. Maybe you could interview random people to further help defining your argument.

Faith is a good word and would be very interesting to hear the definition. Maybe you can use different cultures as examples and how they express their own faiths and beliefs.
