Patriotism

Obama was thought to be unpatriotic due to his stance during the pleg of allegence and lack of a flag pin on his shirt. It is considered quite rude to stand in any other way than facing the flag with your right hand over your heart but Obama states that this rule and that pin have become a "subsitute for I think true Patriotism". Patriotism is treated as if you are rooting for your favorite team. Red, white and blue are displayed on your car, or on your person as with the Red Hat Society pictured on page 255. You see the the top of the Declaration "We the People. . ." instantly means something to you and don't forget Uncle Sam pointing at you to do the right thing. But going back to what Omaba said about these things being mere substitutes, we must ask ourselves, "do I act patriotic? Do I always do the right thing for my country?" Everyone from Obama to the ladies in their red hats are acting as great patriots whether it be through a symbol or an action, so long as they do not prove to be hypocrite.
