Freedom

To me freedom is not clearly defined. Most of the time people say that freedom is what rights we are given as citizens of the US. In my opinion I think freedom goes beyond what rights we are given. I think that freedom also entails what we are willing to give up. If a person is truly free they see the rights they are given and understand what is expected of them to maintain their freedom. In an effort to preserve our rights, we sometimes have to give them up for the greater good. In the end the only rights we need are "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." If we loose those three rights we have lost our freedom.

This argument can be controversial because it depends on the person. Other people define freedom by their experiences and how they were brought up. Numerous different beliefs and circumstances would change the audience's perception of the word based off of their preconceived notions. I think examples from the past, articles and other people's beliefs will help to shape the definition.

Your definition sounds good. You probably might already know, but try not to just focus on the more global meanings of freedom; you could also focus on more "local" freedom such as a little kid wanting to be free from having to do everything their parents tell them to do.

I don't have any sources on my mind, but maybe looking at sources that debate that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is not necessarily freedom.

You might want to consider other countries and their view on freedom rather than just focusing on the U.S. because this can vary. I also suggest that you should explain within your definition if there are limits to how much freedom you can have. Does having freedom mean that you can commit crimes such as murder or do you believe that there should be certain guidelines?
