Patriotism

Obama offers a true meaning of patriotism and a more in depth view of it. He is right when he says that patriotism is more than just a loyalty to a single nation. Patriotism is so much more than that. Compared to the images on pages 245 and 255, Obama's definition explains how patriotism is sticking to your country through good times and bad times. The image of Uncle Sam on page 254 shows more of a hypocritcal view in the way that patriotism is shown as always listening to your country and never questioning nor disagreeing with your government. The image on page 254 simply shows kind of the opposite of what Obama is describing since his definition offers individuals to speak up and help their country no matter what. The image on 255 coincides with Obama's definition because it shows citizens decked out in American clothing showing that they are behind their countries decisions and ideals. I believe patriotism is believing in your country through wonderful times and harsh times but to an extent. If your country/ government is doing the right thing for the people then they should be backed one-hundred percent, but if they are doing something you believe in your hearts is morally wrong then argue, disagree and stand up for what you believe in. Rocking a flag doesn't make you a hero it's what you do for your country to make it a better place for everyone that makes you a hero.
