When accused by the media that he wasn't patriotic, president Obama defined his idea of patriotism. He believes that patriotism is more than having loyalty to your country and its customs. He claims that true patriotiam is when you have loyalty to American ideals and would devote your "last full measure" to protect them. This is a little different from the older definition of patriotism which was more like, "love and remain loyal to your counrty, no matter what." The image of Uncle Sam on page 254 can somewhat fit the classic discription of patriotism. It is telling people how to feel about a particular situation, like homland security. The other image on page 255 can symbolize patriotism with out limits to a certain group of people. It shows that everyone gan be patriotic no matter what race, gender or sexual orientation you are. My idea of patriotism is simple. I believe that to have patriotism, you must have a strong taste for freedom and a hard working lifestyle because that is what the founding fathers craved when they dreamed of starting a new nation.
