For the definition argument paper, I have chosen the word marriage. There are many different definitions for the word, and over the years, its definition has become controversial. The definition of the word can vary depending on the culture and religion, among many other things. Recently, it has become extremely controversial because of the legalization of gay marriages. For me, marriage has always been a part of my plans for the future; however, its definition has changed over the years for me. To me, marriage means uniting yourself and everything that has to do with you and your loved one. I believe that when you marry someone, you should do it because you really want to be with that person for years to come. Some people argue that legal papers aren't necessary in order to be married to a person, but I don't agree. If the couple doesn't practice a certain religion, they should at least get legally married. However, even though I believe that marriage occurs when two people love each other, I also believe that marriage can serve as a benefit for both persons (sometimes). Marriage should be thought out carefully to make sure that there aren't any regrets because it shouldn't be treated as a game.
There are a few sources that I am thinking about using for my definition argument paper. I plan on using articles, excerpts from religious books such as the Bible, and dictionaries to provide different definitions of the word. Hopefully these sources will help me to successfully prove my argument and to define "marriage."

Marriage is a good topic!
This is a good topic, but can be very challenging to explain your reasoning. Using articles is a good start and you could probably use quotes from religious beings, like Mother Theresa or everyday people, to support your claim on marriage.
I think this topic could be really hard to do because it is so limited in how it is defined. Yes it has a lot of differnet ways to descirbe it but it usually comes back to the same general definition
I think the topic you have is great but also very difficult. And I don't agree with you on this "Marriage should be thought out carefully to make sure that there aren't any regrets because it shouldn't be treated as a game" Because some people do think it over but somethimes it goes wrong. And to me there shouldn't be any regrets if he/she isn't the one because we're all learning. And even though we think it over and we do it and then it falls apart, its not a bad thing, because sometimes it just happens.
You can find many information on marriage. Use them to create a solid definition.
This is a good topic to discuss and I find it interesting how you are going to bring gay marriage into it. You could also find examples of common law marriage and discuss if you feel this is the same as real marriage (one with a license). Great idea! I'm excited to hear about your paper.
I think marriage is a good topic especialy when you add a controversial argument explaining how its definition has changed. It may be hard but good job in choosing the word.
As you suggested for my topic, look into how marriage is defined in other cultures. Different cultures might define marriage along one major line, but the cultures might have deeper meanings.
good luck lucy!
