The word heart can have many different definitions. A heart physically keeps any living organism alive, but what else can heart mean? What does it mean when someone says " That kid has a lot of heart?", or " That guy just doesn't have a heart, does he ?" In these two situations heart can mean different things. In the first example heart can be defined as spirit or determination. That is a positive defintion of heart. In the second example the definition of the word could mean moral sense, sensitivity, or feelings. As you can tell heart can be used in numerous ways. A heart is also a symbol thrown around everywhere a person looks. Places like facebook, shirts, tattoos, and many other various places. The simple symbol of a heart can also mean love. When someone says "I heart you" they are essentially saying I love you .
I picked this word because I have always been a person to be emotionally connected to my surroundings and people in my life. I like how the word heart can mean so many positive and negative things at the same time. Being positive and negative is just like life. It keeps everything interesting. Honestly the word heart means (to me ) detemination, love, spirit, happy, desire and faith. Heart can't be defined in one simple defintion because there is not just one definition for the word. Others may define it differently then I do. They may think that heart really has no connotation at all and is just a physical organ. This word might be controversial because people don't understand how the word heart can mean so many things or they might think that heart is not the right term for a certain situation. I would am probably going to use photos and songs to support my word. I think heart is a good word for this paper so I'm excited to do it.

Heart is a good word but it'll be hard to find a universal definition of it cus it represents so many different things. The heart does represent love but nowadays when people say "I heart you" as you said, and as hearts are seen everywhere, has the word been de-sensitized to love? I dont know..maybe you could talk about how the definition of heart has changed too?
You show nicely that heart can be used differently, however when you state that most people do not know what heart means in various situations, maybe you should do a quick survey. Ask people on campus, or around you what their take on what 'heart' means; it will probably give you more dimension to your argument.
I think you have a good start on what you think heart means. To me heart is what guides your decisions, yes you have the heart that keeps you alive but heart is so much more than just that, your heart is where your passion lies that is what is your driving factor in most of life.
I would look into the origin of the term. I think that people refer to 'heart' as a feeling because there is some connection with morality or inherent knowledge of right and wrong...
I think this will be a good paper, because it is a word that is so ambigous and defined so often in so many different ways. It will be very interesting, because it has a very specific scientific definition to describe what constitutes a heart and what does not. However, we have assigned other definitions to it because it is so essential in organisms to survive. We then associated other aspects of life with it that we deem necessary, or especially preferred, to survival as well (spirit, our well-being, ect.).
It could be important to describe why these aspects are so important to us (like why love is so important). It could also be important to explain how many of these definitions of heart are not so much about the word "heart" itself, but what it represents, to who, and why.
