Family

Many people hear the word family and think, oh, family, that’s an easy concept to understand when in all reality; there are a few different ways to really view the word. What is family? What does the word mean, what does the word stand for. Those are questions I ask myself every time I think of that word. I believe that the word family is defined in the simply way that a person’s family consists of those that are the closest and most important to them. For some people, that includes their mom and dad, their brother and sister. Some people include their dog or maybe even the fish they adopted in an elevator. Other people though can define their family by their best friend, their significant other, the friend that always seems to be there when needed most, the teacher that opened their eyes to whatever new idea. I believe that a person’s family consists of the people that bring warmth and happiness to their heart.
With that idea in mind though, there are people out in the world I am sure that would contradict what I said above. There are people who will say that the word family is limited only to the people that share each other’s blood. A mother, father and their children. Some specific examples I might use in my paper will definitely be the media. Most likely I will try to find some songs and newspaper articles to support my essay.

Something you could talk about would be what does it mean to not have any family in terms of your definition and of other people's definitions, and whether it would ever be possible to live without any family at all (biological or otherwise). Make sure to explain why other people wouldn't agree with your definition of family, and what kind of experiences they might have had to shape their definition of family.

Songs and newspaper articles are good sources to support your essay. You can also do some research on how the definition of family varies according to culture, and then compare and contrast their definitions.

You could also talk about how family is also use in different matters. For instance, pertaining to the military, soldiers tend to mention that their brother in arms is like their second family. Since, they fight together and will be most likely by each other in their final moments.

I think by first defining what you think about the word family, it would help in making your paper on the word more well rounded. I like the idea that everyone's perception of family is different because everyone's family is in fact different.

Finding the different definition of family to people would be helpful, because some people are so close to people that they consider them "family". Find this aspect and maybe expand on it.
