Instead of punishing North Korea for testing nukes, America should weaken their military power by helping them improve their economy.

It was used in Japan after world war II. When a country's focus is on gorwing the economy, then the country will focus less on developing the army.

How would this help weaken North Korea's military strength? In all aspects, the more money and better economy has, it will be better able to afford a better military. An example of this is how the wealthiest countries usually have the best militaries (America, France, Britain, ect.)

In response to Japan after WWII, the reason why Japan's military strength was weakened is because they were forcibly demilitarized as a condition for their surrender to the Allies. This was not a direct result of their strengthened economy.
